As a close knit swing community, we have always helped each other out. I'll never forget the first time we reconvened in the French Quarter after Katrina. After seeing everyone Angeli's on Decatur and listening to the Jazz Vipers live after over a month with all my close friends, I cannot begin to express the joy that I felt in my heart, soul, and feet that night!
With the possibility of Gustav (and right now, it's only a possibility), I wanted to start a thread so we can keep track of each other. Last time we were so scattered and didn't know who evacuated where. Who knows, another dancer may be in your neck of the woods. With that being said, if you do evacuate, please keep us informed where you are and if you're alright.
With love and prayers,
Jayna

I'm praying that it's not a bad one. Be safe everybody.

Thanks Rick. If and when the mayor calls for evacuation, Jody, Julie, and I are heading to Memphis along with Tom, Tracey, and Jenna.
Who else is evacuating and where are you going?
Jayna
...in Slidell at the moment and hunkering down at the Space Center tomorrow, as we did for Katrina. From there, we'll see!
Right now, Tom, Tracey, Jenna, JR, Jody, Nathalie, and myself are staying with Jaredan in Memphis. Kelly and Adrian are also here staying with local dancers.
Everyone is in my thoughts and prayers. Good luck!

Following Swing Out New Hampshire. My phone had no signal the whole weekend and I felt very cut off, but had the use of the camp computer to keep in touch with my family. No flights in to N.O. until Wednesday, so I'm stuck 'til then. Looking forward to seeing everyone next week.

Hmmm maybe prayer does work....or just wishing/hoping. I hope all y'all find it much as you left it when you return. I'm glad you're all safe. Me, i'm still in NC halfway through this school.
Take care people. :o)

are safe in Metairie. Hope to see you guys soon.
I'm back home uptown, where there are a lot of services. If your neighborhood does not have power, the Rouses on Tchoup & Nap is open, as are the restaurants and bars on Magazine between Louisiana and Washington. I hear the Laurel Street Bakery is also open, and that Winn Dixie on Tchoup and Jeff, and Whole Foods are supposed to be opening Friday.
We had a window blow out in our bedroom so we've had a little cleaning to do, but otherwise, we really lucked out! I'm actually using wireless internet at home less than a week after the storm! WOO HOO.
Hey, anyone going out Friday night?
Lori is also back home in Metairie.
I'm coming home on Friday. A bunch of us want to go to Frenchmen on Friday!
Drove by my Aunt's house on Fountainbleau, 30% of the street has power, the rest is dark. Across the city it seems spotty when you are driving. I came in on the causeway, and the buildings on the right hand side (Lakeside Shopping Center) had power. The left side, pitch black. Seems that all of carrolton was without power, except for the shell station. I know Jindal is trying to help keep gas stations and grocery stores open to help facilitate the citizens return.
Anyway... that is all I know for now.
Hope everyone remains safe and see you soon. (Not sure if I am making it out Friday yet.)

Save a Cow. Eat a vegetarian.
I just called Spotted Cat, and they'll have live music tonight starting at 6 (forgot to ask if it was Panorama), and then the Jazz Vipers at 10!!
Anyone gonna go?
Hope everyone has made (or will make it) it back safely!
New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has set a new curfew of 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. in the wake of Hurricane Gustav.
The curfew does not apply to zip codes 70112, 70115, 70116 and 70130. In those areas, the curfew has been set from 2-6 a.m, because most street lights are back on and they are business corridors.
I just read that on nola.com, Sonia. Marigny is in 70116, and 70112 is the FQ. If you live in the Sliver by the River, you can get to Frenchmen and back before 2 PM (70130 is the Irish Channel and downtown).
However, there are still several street lights out so be careful!
70115 is Uptown so I think you can really go around quite freely, or kind of... but unfortunately I am still on the Northshore. My place got damaged quite badly and I can't live in it, but hopefully I will be an "Uptown Girl" again starting next week ;).
I can't wait to see you all, except for Robert of course ;)
I hope the repair process won't be TOO much of a headache for you. Oh yeah, and I did mean 2 AM. *sigh*
Where were you tonight Boyerific? Spotted Cat was PACKED!! Robert, Adrian, Tom, Tracey, Jenna, Jody, Elizabeth, and myself were there. Fun time!
Tonya, please let us know if you need anything. What was the damage to your house?
I went after some quick arm twisting. It is Jenna's last weekend before her big trip across the big pond! Party for her Saturday night! Missed everyone else that could not make it!

No one confirmed that they were indeed going out. That's not a part of town I like driving to and parking by myself after dark. I wasn't gonna take that chance.
We missed you Ellen! :(
